Storm-force winds of up to 165mph have battered Scotland, disrupting travel and closing schools.
The Met Office issued its highest red-alert warning for much of the central belt and police warned motorists to avoid the roads altogether.
Winds of 165mph were recorded on the summit of Cairn Gorm in the Highlands, the Met Office said. The fastest gust recorded on the peak was 173mph in 1986.
A gust of 137mph swept the summit of Aonach Mor, near Ben Nevis in the Highlands. On lower ground, 105mph winds hit Tulloch Bridge in Inverness and 81mph winds were recorded in Dunstaffnage in Argyll and Bute.
ScottishPower said this afternoon that as many as 12,000 homes in the Perthshire area were without power.
